Chili cookoff challenge underway

Body

Challenges are being laid down all throughout town and things are getting heated between businesses. But it’s all for fun and a good cause as the Lucky Vaquero Chili Cook Off hosted by the Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum is quickly approaching.

“Please bring your game face and attitude because your challenger has the mindset that you absolutely cannot beat them in this competition,” Organizer Rick Taylor said. “Local businesses are entering while challenging other businesses in an effort to make this a community wide event.”

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 30 at Wright Park in downtown Dublin.

The chili cookoff will serve as a fundraiser for the Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum.

Entry fees are $40, with a 50% payback and $250 added money.

Entries are due by May 28 and there will be awards for 1st through 3rd place, along with a people’s choice award and showmanship award. Judging will be at 1:30 p.m.

For the event, participants must be set up by 10 a.m. and attend the cooks’ meeting at 10 a.m.

There can be no fillers in the chili including beans, rice or pasta. No vehicles of any kind can be on the grass.

Items promoting your business are encourages, and appetizers are allowed as well.

If you want to challenge another business, you absolutely can! Call 254-4590141 to find out which businesses have been challenged.

Individuals may also enter with entries and prizes being the same as the business division. Vendor spaces are also available for $40 and burgers will be available for $5.

The event is sanctioned by LGCA Lilly G Chili Association. To enter the chili cook off mail checks to Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum, P.O. Box 321, Dublin, TX, 76446.

At 4 p.m. the same day, the branding iron ceremony will take place inside the Rodeo Museum.

For $60, individuals can burn their brands into the branding iron wall.

“Be sure and let us know the history of your brand please,” Taylor said.

The weekend will continue on Sunday, May 31 with a Sermon on the Mount by Zeb Wright starting at 11 a.m. with refreshments and burgers to follow. That morning at 9:30 a.m. anyone wanting to meet and ride their ‘mount’ to the Sermon on the Mount event should meet at the City Park and ride to the Rodeo Heritage Museum in downtown.
