Bank of Houston Dublin branch president and longtime community leader Monte Thiebaud retired Wednesday, March 31 after 30 consecutive years with the branch and 46 years in local banking.

Thiebaud first joined the location in 1980 as he was finishing up at Tarleton.

“My degree is in accounting; I like working with numbers,” Thiebaud said of what drew him to the career. He added that he knew he didn’t want to become a CPA because he didn’t want to keep up with changing IRS regulations. Thiebaud started in bookkeeping and was moved over to a teller position after a while.

“I started at the ground floor which is what enabled me to get a lot of knowledge,” Thiebaud said.

In 1985, he moved over to First National Bank for the possibility of promotion and started there as a cashier.

Thiebaud also gained experience in lending and worked in programming alongside Darrell Brown for a short time in DeLeon.

After returning to then Dublin National Bank, he was named to the president position when Joe Thompson left. When the bank was sold to Bank of Houston in 2018, he kept the position and gained the title of executive VP within the organization for his branch.

Thiebaud said his favorite thing about banking has been just serving the people and offering financial advice to help them.

“I’m more of a background person than an out front,” he offered. “I’ve enjoyed being able to [help customers] in that manner.”

Thiebaud also devoted time to serving in the background by serving the Dublin Economic Development Corporation for 20 years, resigning as president in 2023. He has also served on the Dublin Housing Authority board.

Thiebaud said he is looking forward to retirement as he hasn’t taken a vacation in several years. He and his wife, Roxanna (with whom he has two children) will get to see their grandchildren more often, visiting and attending games.

Thiebaud wished to say thank you to the people he’s worked with and the customers he’s gotten to know. “ I can only be where I’m at and enjoyed it as much as I have because of them,” he said.
