The following employees were approved under probationary contracts. DISD requires those who have not been with the district for three years or who are new to teaching to be on a probationary contract. Educators include: Evalynn Emerson, Lydia Pustejovsky, Lynzee Bennett, Lauren Greenway, Skye Gaitan, Timothy Goff, Michael Previte, Aimee Spharler, Jedidiah Vaughn and Kiela Whitten.
Waivers for a number of educators were also approved by the board since the Texas Legislature is mandating that all teachers be certified by 2029.
The waivers approved by the district include timelines and steps educators are in the process of taking to become certified.
The district also took action on a waiver for bad weather days, while utilizing part of their leftover built in minutes.
Superintendent Melissa Summers updated the board on several items including the district’s vulnerability audit related to school security.
Summers said the district was flagged for two tiny windows on the elementary school gym not having their entry resistant film covering.
The problem has since been fixed.
Roof repairs on all buildings are almost done and AC’s on top of the buildings will be inspected regarding how they are placed on the roof.
Summers said she had also had some questions about revisiting a 4-day school week so a survey will be going out to 9-12 grade students, teachers and parents in the next couple of weeks.
The superintendent also said at the next meeting a discussion will be had about possibly paying off the 2015 bond early, helping to eliminate some of the Interest and Sinking portion of the tax rate for taxpayers.
