Tucked into a corner at the annual Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council’s fundraising banquet, artist Blu Dornan paused to speak with patrons while completing a masterpiece in ink on paper.
The finished piece raised more than $5,000 for CTFAC and contributed to the $75,000 total brought in by the event, showing just how important the arts are to Erath County.
“The hardest challenge an artist can face is to abandon all reference material and drawing aids, while in public, and under a time constraint. It’s the only way to truly know what is inside you and what you are capable of. The true artist knows the True Art is not the finished product. The Wise artist knows only that the True Art is the Spirit and activation from within brought forth to create the finished product,” Dornan stated through social media. “I was honored for the experience and opportunity to create a piece 100% from within to raise money for CTFAC annual fundraiser.”
“Art is about so much more than paint or performances. It provides a place for community. It allows people of all ages a safe space to express themselves, their creativity, feelings and connect with others. Art brings people together,” CTFAC Executive Director Christine Newton said.
The money raised will go to support the varied programs – 105 in 2025 – offered by CTFAC, many of which are free.
Throughout the event, Ferron Lucero of Live Big Co. acted as emcee as well as auctioneer, giving supporters the opportunity to big on a range of live auction items including paintings, trips and even a catering opportunity from Hard Eight BBQ.
Lucero also called on guests who each pledged amounts from $100 to $5,000, and attendees tried their luck during the everpopular Heads and Tails game eliminating purchased necklaces in a game of chance (with heads taking the win.)
The walls were also lined with dozens of donated silent auction items drawing bids until a lively but fun bingo game and drawings brought the night to a close.
The evening also included the recognition of Patron of the Year KayLee Pemberton.
“We are honored to recognize Kaylee Pemberton as our Patron of the Year. KayLee continually supports CTFAC’s mission of making the arts accessible for all. She showcases local artists in her store, Blue-Eyed Buffalo, is a big sponsor of our “Art of the Cowgirl” Luncheon and has been involved in many of our art programming and events, including Art & Manners Camps, Stephenville Wine & Arts Walk and so much more. She truly is an asset to CTFAC and our community,” Newton said.
Newton also recognized the board for all they do for the organization and community including: Samantha Osmotherly, Daphne Hunt, Stephanie Beach, Julie Wooley Lowrance, Amauri Martinez, Jennie Shafer, Lea Contreras, Jill McAngus and Katrina Harris.
