The Lingleville Lady Cardinals hosted some special visitors Friday, Feb. 6 as they took on Walnut Springs.
“Youth Night at LHS was a huge success,” exclaimed head girls basketball coach Brandon Haught. “We hosted as many 1st through 8th graders as we could get to hype up the future of the Lady Cardinal athletic program. We had a loud home court and the atmosphere was electric!”
In the game, Lingleville scored 33 to the visiting team’s 41.
“We faced an early deficit in the first quarter, going down 2 to 12. But we did outscore WS from the 2nd quarter on,” Haught reported. “We just came out a little timid, and a little slower than we would have liked to. I’m proud of the way the girls came out and fought from whistle to whistle and never gave up. That is a winning mentality and it will pay off for them by the time they graduate.”
Nevaeh Jacinto led Lady Cards scoring with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Brynlee James had 4 points and a handful of rebounds as well. Amelia Finney chipped in with 5 points and 3 steals.
“Denise Toledo also was a huge factor in her first game back from injury,” said Haught. “She ran the Lady Cardinals offense, and looked like she hadn’t been out for 2 months!”
The Lady Cardinals were facing off against Bluff Dale Tuesday, Feb. 10 for the final playoff spot. “If Lingleville wins, they are in the playoffs; if they lose they will have to play Bluff Dale again on Friday at a neutral site for a tie breaker,” said Haught. The Lady Cardinals won by 31 in their last matchup with Bluff Dale.
