Simply Dangerous may not be an event everyone is familiar with, but for more than eight years the western gala has acted as a way to earn money for the Children’s Miracle Network and Cook Children’s Hospital.
This year’s 9th annual event will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Barry Thompson Ballroom at Tarleton State University. Tickets are $100 and includes dinner, live music and awards including a men’s and ladies’ western wear showcase. Live music will be performed by Zack Foster.
In 2018, the event was created by Lilly G Arena Production Chief Executive Officer Rick Taylor.
Children’s Miracle Network played a big part in helping his family during a time when resources were limited, ultimately resulting in one of his children having a long, productive, healthy life and three children of her own.
“There came a time, when I felt compelled to give back. My family is worth every penny,” Taylor said. “In 2025, Children’s Miracle Network/Cook Children’s Hospital treated over 8,500 children from Erath County alone. Simply Dangerous helps to bring awareness along with monetary donations.”
Lilly G Arena Productions, the organizing nonprofit of the event, has been hosting, promoting, producing and directing charity events for 20 plus years. Originally hosting events throughout the entire state, the nonprofit has focuses more on local events in the past five years.
“Events mostly consist of rodeo atmosphere, but we are not limited as we produce festivals, cookoffs and help with private venues,” Taylor said. Ultimately, the nonprofit decided hosting outdoor events with unpredictable winter weather wasn’t the best idea and brought Simply Dangerous into play.
“Simply Dangerous was geared to get young people involved in something they would enjoy, have fun with and be a part in giving back to the community,” he said.
Many individuals, businesses and volunteers come together to make this show happen, along with other Lilly G events throughout the year.
“These folks are recognized for their efforts put forth. From top hand, sponsor of the year, to Lifetime Achievement and Entertainer of the Year awards all are recognized along with western wear for all ages, a dinner, and live entertainment from local up and coming artists,” he said.
