EDC approves funding new digital sign downtown

Dublin Economic Development Corporation has approved a $35,000 expense to help the Corner Lot group replace the nonworking digital sign.

At the Tuesday, Nov. 25 EDC Board meeting, founding members of the Corner Lot group Donna and Steve Hightower asked for a $2,500 Community Improvement Grant to help pay for the sign. However, the board agreed to pay the entire cost of the sign to aid the community.

The cost must still be approved by the Dublin City Council and go through a public hearing phase due to the amount being spent.

Also, during new business a $7,500 commercial façade grant was approved in a 5 to 1 vote for Mark Ellis’ building at 112 W. Blackjack.

A $4,875 façade grant was also unanimously approved for Miles McNeal for repointing of the bricks at Doublin’ In located on Elm Street.

The EDC’s new website is almost up and running and is expected to act as a ‘one stop shop’ for those wanting to do business in Dublin.

The site is expected to go live in the next few weeks and will be a ‘living document’ that goes through changes as needed. The website can be found at www.dublintxedc.com.

The board and Executive Director Noah Cullis have been working on revamping the community improvement event grant and event expansion grant to combine them into one application.

The board cut the event grant budget in half this year to be able to put funds toward other projects in the city and those applying for the grant will only be able to apply for one event grant per year though it is up to the board’s discretion.

The board is also working on a nondisclosure agreement that will be signed by all board members and the executive director in order to make sure anything discussed in executive session, especially in regards to incoming businesses and economic development, stays private until details are ready to be made public.

“This is a common practice of EDCs,” Cullis said.
