Erath County Democrats and Republicans have come together to help combat county-wide hunger.
Erath County Democratic Party Chairman Moumin Quazi and Erath County Republican Party Chairman Dave Washam along with individuals within their parties have come together to raise funds for food banks, pantries and Meals on Wheels.
Both parties have agreed to match each other’s donations to local food banks/pantries, and those donations are estimated to be about $2,500.
Heather Anderson, second vice chair of the Erath County Republican Party, wanted to do a project that would unite neighbors instead of what divides them.
“I plan to do other things to get both parties to work together in the future as well. We both agree that supporting local businesses is important and with Christmas coming up, there’s another good opportunity,” she said. “It would be nice if Democratic and Republican parties could come together and there could be less hate in the world.”
“There are times when we should and do put our political differences aside and work for the general good of the community. This is one of those times,” Washam said.
“It’s an honor and joy to continue collaborating, in the spirit of friendship and what joins us,” said Quazi. “Allied action is a great next step after our earlier community conversation event.”
