Council fires judge

Body

The Dublin City Council unanimously voted to terminate Juanita Vasquez as municipal judge for the city of Dublin in a specially called meeting Friday, Oct. 24 with the announcement made Wednesday, Oct. 29 when she returned to the office.

The action stemmed from an incident the previous week involving a discrepancy related to the water account of a family member that she had established. The meeting was held following the advisement of legal counsel.

Vasquez has acted as municipal judge for Dublin since Nov. 2021 when Latrelle Cain retired. She had been an associate judge since Nov. 2012.

The council will decide how to handle municipal judge duties in the next meeting Monday, Nov. 10, but one potential option would be to have the Precinct 2 Judge David Martin handle those duties as well. (The roles were reportedly combined in the past.)
