Come join the rodeo elite this weekend as the annual Dublin Rodeo Heritage Association Annual Honoree Dinner is being held Saturday.
The dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Dublin Intermediate School, located at 609 Thomas St. Admission is $20 per person and includes a catfish dinner and entertainment by Maddi Pendleton This year’s honoree dinner will be dedicated in memory of the late Bobby Kerr.
Kerr was known for his antics inside the arena with his mustang act. The cowboy was a horseman at heart training horses for more than 50 years. He also was the founder of the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. Kerr recently lost his battle with esophageal cancer at the age of 67.
According to his obituary, Kerr, who was born in Ontario, “ran away from home in Canada to pursue his dream of becoming a cowboy in America” at the age of 14 after seeing a Roy Rogers film.
As an entertainment act, audiences were often delighted by the tricks he had mustangs perform, with his act seeing horses do everything from ride in a car with Kerr and a pair of cow dogs to jumping through fire.
“Bobby Kerr was known for his western way of life, and being a role model for many as a family man, husband, father and entertainer. He will live on in the hearts of all that knew him. He will also be inducted into the Living Legends Hall of Fame on Dec. 20 as planned,” Rodeo Heritage Museum organizer Rick Taylor said.
New Living Legends inductee includes Ted Nuce and a slew of recent Living Legend inductees including Sid Miller, Living Legacy Jeff “Jackrabbit” Harris, along with many more rodeo names and celebrities.
There will also be a live auction benefitting the rodeo. The event serves as one of the major fundraisers for the museum and everyone is encouraged to attend, organizers said. The museum is still accepting auction items through Friday, Sept. 12 for those who want to support the Dublin institution in preserving the legend of Everett Colborn and Gene Autry’s World’s Championship Rodeo headquartered at Dublin, Texas starting in 1937 to 1959. For over twenty years, the road to Madison Square Garden and other national rodeos began on the Lightning C Ranch at Dublin. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at the museum, at the door or by calling (254)4590141. Proceeds from the event will go toward keeping the museum alive and growing.
The Museum is located at 118 W. Blackjack.
