This September brings not just one chance to have fun and honor our local Hispanic culture but two!
The Knights of Columbus will be hosting the first event, the Hispanic Fall Festival, Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. in the lot by St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Hwy 377. Entry is free to the public.
Organizer Sandra Espinosa said the Knights reached out to her about putting together an event incorporating the Stephenville Boxing Club’s fourth annual Lights Out boxing tournament with funds going to help the parishes of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Brendan’s in Stephenville.
Espinosa talked to the club which was on board. Thanks to a lot of planning and organization the event offers a lot more than just the tourney.
The events also promises: a wealth of food trucks and vendors selling food and items; a kids area with a petting zoo pony rides and activities; and live music and entertainment.
“We’ve been working on it the last two months to make it successful and fun for the community,” said Espinosa. “It’s important because it’s not just for a good cause. It’s about cultural awareness— to celebrate our heritage.”
The event will all be hosted in the lot next to St. Mary’s with the “doors opening” on the boxing tournament at noon and first bell at 1 p.m. Although entry is free, ringside seating is $15 with VIP tables available for sponsors. The tournament will feature 35 fights with boxers registered in the USA Boxing Club.
Following the tournament, live music will start on the nearby stage. Lakari, a new band trying to get their name out, will start at 6:30 p.m. followedbySonoraDinamita providing some cumbia music to get people moving. La Maquina Universal will then take the stage for the big finish.
At 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., Danza Azteca San Miguel Arcangel from Austin will show off traditional Aztec dancing in full costume for some colorful entertainment.
Espinosa said the Knights and organizers have been working to ensure the event is a fun one for Erath County and the surrounding communities and thanked major sponsors Prime Metal Building and Components, Baxter Chemical & Janitorial Supply and 360 Ag Management Dairies.
