Last week for Summer Reading program

Those who have been reading throughout the summer only have through Saturday to turn in their Summer Reading logs to the Dublin Public Library.

“We’ve had a lot of participation in this year’s Summer Reading Program, and we are excited to see how many books were read,” Library Director Adina Dunn said.

Those who turn in their Summer Reading logs by 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19 are eligible to be entered in prize drawings and get free books during the ‘Color Our World’ event.

For each chapter book read (for adults, teens or kids) or 10 picture books, participants will receive a chance to enter drawings for Six Flags Tickets (sponsored by First National Bank), a Nintendo Switch, Apple Air Pods, Minecraft Legos, magnetic blocks, a Bluey Scooter, a Bogg bag, a Pokemon bookend set, an acrylic paint set or a choice of two book lover sets.

They also get to go through the library’s free book fair to get three books and prizes to keep.

As the Summer Reading Program winds down, the library and its volunteers are gearing up for this year’s Back To School Fair set from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 26.

The event will offer a variety of give-a-ways including backpacks, toiletry items, underwear and socks, as well as free haircuts. School supplies will only be provided on a very limited basis since Dublin ISD is providing supplies for all grade levels.

“We are grateful to local churches for providing toiletries,” Dunn said.

A foam pile, hot dogs from the Lions Club and ice cream from Dublin DQ will be served.

Free haircuts will start at 8:30 a.m. and those wanting one will need to have clean hair and dry clothes. Haircuts need to be completed before kids play in the foam.

Library staff would ask everyone who is playing in the foam to conduct library business inside before getting wet, and reminds patrons no food or drinks are permitted inside the building.

Sponsors for the event include Stephenville Area Elks Lodge, Cottonwood Baptist, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Highland Ave. Cong. Methodist, Church of Christ, Greens Creek Baptist, Highland Baptist Church, Greens Creek Methodist, First Methodist Church, First Baptist Church of Dublin, Boucher & Smart, 50 Women Strong, Serenity House Impact Youth Prevention, CASA, Waste Connection, Cook Children’s Hospital, Dublin Woman’s Thursday Club, All About You Spa & Salon, Shear Heaven, Dublin Dairy Queen, Dublin Lions Club. Children must be present for give-a-ways and supplies are limited.

Anyone wanting to donate items for the Back To School Fair can do so starting July 22, and drop them off at the library.
