Two arrests have been made by the Texas Rangers and the victim has been identified in regards to a multi-county homicide investigation.
The body of Marcio Maridell Anderson, 41, of Copperas Cove was discovered on May 15 in Comanche County.
On May 15, the Comanche County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an incident involving a person on fire on Highway 2823 near the borders of Comanche, Erath and Hamilton counties.
Through an extensive investigation, two suspects believed to be responsible for Anderson’s death, Avery Eugene Stemmons, 21, and Karina Gonzales Baretto, 21, both of Killeen, were arrested by local and federal law enforcement partners in York, Maine on May 20. They were then extradited to Texas and are now being held at the Comanche County Jail.
The investigation is active and ongoing and there is no threat to the public currently, Texas Rangers said in a press release.
