May 3 Election draws 8% turnout

With only a 7.64% voting turn out in the city, new city councilmembers were elected during the May 3 local elections.

Dublin City Council and Bluff Dale ISD were the only two Erath entities to host elections this year in May, and the two combined resulted in a total 512 ballots cast out of 3,200 registered voters (16%).

Based on unofficial totals in Place 1 Dublin City Council, Bo Kalbala won with 95 votes (68.35%), Patrick Salyer received 28 votes (20.14%) and Homi Limbuwala received 16 votes (11.51%).

In Place 3 Dublin City Council, unopposed candidate Darren Turley retained his seat earning 114 votes.

For Place 5 City Council, incumbent candidate Sammy Moore retained his seat with 98 votes (74.24%) while challenger Dalton Harris received 34 votes (25.76%).

In Bluff Dale ISD, Proposition A finally passed by a narrow margin – 191 in favor with 182 in opposition.

Proposition A was a $1 million bond for the construction, acquisition and equipment with the school’s infrastructure improvements with priority given to the replacement of the district’s septic system with a wastewater treatment plant to comply with TCEQ requirements.

Proposition B failed by a narrow margin – 197 votes against to 176 votes in favor.

Proposition B was the issuance of $1.5 million bond for construction, acquisition, rehabilitation, renovation, expansion and equipment of school facilities with priority given to facility upgrades.

All votes remain unofficial until they are canvassed by their respective entities. Dublin City Council will be sworn into office Monday, May 12.
