MS Trail ride leads in trio of rodeo events

Body

For rodeo and horse lovers alike, there will be several events over the next few weeks to aid numerous nonprofits.

This weekend, the 28th annual Cowboy Capital MS Trail Ride, Fun Run/Walk will take place Saturday, May 3 at Blue Stem Ranch Gate 11.

The 2,000-acre ranch about 2.5 miles west of Morgan Mill provides the perfect place for the trail ride with its varied terrain and ample parking at the camp site for your vehicles and trailers.

Currently MS affects 400,000 people in the U.S. and 2.5 million worldwide. There is no cure but advancements in treatment give hope to those affected and their loved ones.

Funds received through the MS Trail Ride support research, education, advocacy and local programs that enhance the quality of life for people with MS and their families. Cost for the ride a minimum $50 donation for adults, or $25 to run/walk.

While these are the minimum donations of entry, participants are encouraged to seek sponsorships to draw more attention to the disease and the need to raise funds to fight it.

A chuckwagon breakfast is provided by the Erath County Cowboy Church at 7 a.m. followed by the 8 a.m. ride check in.

Trail ride instruction and invocation will be at 8:45 a.m. with riders heading out at 9 a.m.

Registration for the trail run/ walk begins at 9:30 a.m. and disembarking at 10 a.m.

A free lunch for the participants will be served from noon to 1 p.m. with a silent and live auction to follow along with prizes and trophies.

The event is rain or shine.

On Sunday, May 4 the fun continues with a Cinco De Mayo fundraising event for the Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum.

At 10 a.m. there will be a cowboy style church service in the parking lot preached by John Foster of Andrews.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the event continues with $5 hamburgers sold as a fundraiser for the museum, an autograph session by rodeo clown Jeff ‘Jackrabbit’ Harris, along with Lily G Rodeo Royalty.

Other activities will include rides on the bucking barrel, pinatas for kids, museum tours and pre-sale tickets for Monta de Toros. The event is rain or shine.

Next weekend, Lilly G Arena will be hosting its annual Monta de Toros bull riding event at the Dublin City Park Rodeo Arena.

The open bullriding event will kick off at 7:30 p.m. with bull riders from across the state. Entry fees to ride are $100 with 100% Payback. Sign in is 6 p.m.

Attendee admission is $10 with 8 and under free.

Rodeo clown Jackrabbit will be back by popular demand and bullrider Alfredo Dugue will be in attendance.

Bull Poker is also taking entries for those 18 and up. To enter bull poker or for more information call 254459-0141. The event is rain or shine, though if there is lightning the event may be canceled or delayed.

The event benefits the Dublin Rodeo Association.
