ECGS to host program, honor Whitefield
The Erath County Genealogical Society is inviting the public to two events at the Dublin Public Library Saturday, April 26.
Dublin Public Library, Erath County Genealogical Society, and Women's Thursday Club will honor volunteer Donna Whitefield at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26. The reception will be followed at 2 p.m. by a genealogy program. Lezlee Liljenberg, author of If You Only Knew: Navigating DNA Surprises and The NPE World (Not-Parent Expected) will share her personal discovery through DNA testing and how test results can be helpful in your genealogy research.
As severe weather season approaches, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reminds Texans they can purchase certain items tax free during the state’s sales tax holiday for emergency preparation supplies, which begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, and ends at midnight on Monday, April 28.
There’s no limit on the number of qualifying items you can purchase. These include:
- household batteries, fuel containers and flashlights priced less than $75;
- hurricane shutters and emergency ladders priced less than $300; and
- portable generators priced less than $3,000.
Purchases that do not qualify include:
- batteries for automobiles, boats and other motorized vehicles;
- camping stoves and camping supplies;
- chainsaws;
- plywood;
- extension ladders and stepladders; and
- tents.
Pre-K, Kinder registration set April 29, 30
Pre-K and Kindergarten registration for Dublin ISD will take place 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 and Wednesday, April 30 at the Dublin Elementary School.
Students must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2025 for Pre-K and 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2025 for Kindergarten.
To register a child, parents will need their birth certificate, immunization record, social security card, proof of residency and proof of income for Pre-K. Parents will need an email address to set up the Parent Portal.
City of Dublin/Erath County Tire Disposal Saturday, May 3
All residents in Erath are invited to dispose of old tires from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3 at Dublin City Works.
Cars and pickup tires will be disposed of, no businesses are permitted and you must show proof of residency in Erath County. The event will be until the trailer is full. Public works is located at 602 North Norton in Dublin.
MS Trail Ride 5K/1-mile Fun Run/Walk May 3
The Cowboy Capital MS Trail Ride 5K/1-mile fun run/walk is set for Saturday, May 3 at the Blue Stem Ranch Gate 11 located at West FM-1188 in Morgan Mill.
Ride check in begins at 8 a.m. and the run/walk check in begins at 9:30 a.m.

Erath County Humane Society hosts Cinco De Mayo 5K/Fun Run
ECHS will be hosting its second annual Cinco de Mayo 5K and Fun Run at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 3 on the Bosque River Trail with the trailhead at Timber Ridge Church.
The 5K Run/Walk/Roll begins at 9 a.m. and is for humans only.
At 10 a.m. the 1-mile fun run leashed dogs are welcome. Bring your own pet or run/walk with one of the shelter dogs.
The race is $25 a person and walkups are welcome. Finisher medals will be provided for all participants.
Costumes are encouraged and there will be a dog costume contest. The event also includes door prizes, giveaways and a vendor market.
Revitalize Dublin hosts 90s music event Saturday, May 3
Revitalize Dublin will host its second annual fundraiser at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at Backwoods.
The event will include music from 90s era rock band One Headlight as well as a silent auction to raise money for the nonprofit.
The restaurant will also be offering food and drink at the event.
Big Brothers, Big Sisters to host ‘The Big Cheese’ Saturday, May 3
Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Erath County will be hosting ‘The Big Cheese’ at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at Lucky Vines Vineyard and Winery.
The annual Mac & Cheese Cookoff event is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Chefs or aspiring chefs are welcome. Vendors are welcome for $50 and sponsorship opportunities are available.
Bilingual Summer School meeting set May 6
Dublin Elementary will be having a Pre-K and Kindergarten Bilingual Summer School meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6 in the Elementary Cafeteria.
