Sammy Moore, City Council Place 5

Body

Question: Background/ education/family info? Sammy: I’m currently a City Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tem as well as the Council Member serving on the Dublin Economic Development Council. I graduated from Dublin ISD, Tarleton State University (BSBiology) and University of Texas College of Pharmacy. I’m married to Jill Moore and we have three sons, Conner, Brady and Cole.

Question: What is your occupation? Are there skills involved in the work that will help in serving on city council?

Sammy: I am a hospital pharmacist and have been working at Texas Health Hospital Stephenville for over 30 years. As the Director of Pharmacy, I have acquired years of experience with budgets, policies and procedures, managing staff and working with the public.

Question: What made you decide to run for the board?

Sammy: I was originally asked to fill a vacancy and have enjoyed seeing things improved around town. There is a long list of Dublin people that have helped me over the years and it feels good to give back and even pay it forward.

Question: In your opinion, what is something that needs to be changed?

Sammy: We need more people to get involved in making Dublin better. Every one of us can do our part to help clean up, fix up and help others around town. The city needs to continue to look for a more comprehensive plan to address our city streets. The cost of paving a road is outrageous but we need to do what we can to chip away at repairing or replacing as many streets as possible during a budget year. The City also needs to continue to work on uninhabitable properties to help make Dublin a better place to live. It is extremely disrespectful to allow a property to adversely impact one’s neighbors. I believe in individual rights but living in a neighborhood requires that we take others into consideration when we make decisions about our own property. Our police and code enforcement do not want to be the bad guys but there is a level of code compliance that goes along with living inside the city limits.

Question: What are some of your goals if elected?

Sammy: I hope to continue to work to not raise the tax rate and improve city streets. The cost of just about everything has gone up and that includes property values. That alone has resulted in higher taxes which none of us want. It is therefore essential that the city do good things with those tax dollars that will improve things for the tax payers. City services, including city streets will continue to be important. I hope to continue to see our infrastructure improved to make Dublin a better place to live and do business for everyone. Hopefully, that will also encourage more housing developments and attract more businesses to Dublin.
