According to information released by DPS, around 1:18 p.m. Thursday, March 20 Kelley Jo Wellmaker, 47, of Brownwood was exiting the private drive at CCMC, turning left onto Hwy. 16 in her 2023 Chevrolet Malibu.

Meanwhile, Matthew Hunter Golden, 35, of DeLeon was traveling north on Hwy. 16 in his 2002 Chevrolet 2500 pickup, approaching the drive from which Wellmaker’s vehicle was exiting. There was also an additional vehicle in front of Golden’s vehicle that was slowing down to turn into the same private drive.

Accordingtothepreliminary report from DPS, Wellmaker failed to yield the right of way while exiting the driveway, entering the path of Golden’s vehicle. As a result, the truck struck the Malibu upon its exit from the driveway.
