Tracy King, attorney, King Law Firm

Though her name isn’t Perry Mason, Dublin’s attorney Tracy King has no ‘objections’ to small town life as a lawyer. Tracy is the owner and operator of King Law Firm, now located in downtown Dublin at 115 S. Patrick Street. She has been practicing since 1989 when she became an attorney through Texas Tech Law School. After passing the bar, she worked at the 11th court of Appeals in Eastland for a year. In 1995, King Law Offices was opened and now offers more than 20 years of courtroom experience.

The law office consists of King and her legal assistant Madison Whitt who has been with the business since 2015. “I would be so lost without Madison. She is such an asset to the office and the first friendly person that individuals speak with,” she said.

King credits two individuals with her decision to be a lawyer: her dad and Perry Mason.

“My dad and I watched Perry Mason and we decided that I would go to law school,” she said. Though Tracy can tackle many legal areas, she is most passionate about estate planning simply because there is so much misinformation out there.

For example, many spouses in Texas believe that property owned by one spouse automatically passes to another upon death. In Texas, that is simply not true, she said. If there is a single piece of advice Tracy would share with other females specifically it would be to make sure there was a will or transfer on death deed. “They are so simple, so quick and not expensive,” she said, “and they save so much trouble down the line when a spouse is grieving.”

Along with estate planning, Tracy is the only bankruptcy attorney in a four county area and prides herself on keeping costs reasonable.

“The elderly can’t drive to the city and find an attorney,” she said. Tracy said she has a soft spot for them, especially those going through a bankruptcy. A third of her law practice is made up of bankruptcy cases.

“If your spouse of 50 years needs treatments, you’re going to do what you need to do, and that means credit card debt,” she said.

Throughout her life, Tracy has been influenced by several people and mentors including her mom Cheryl Lowe, and her dad, who passed away about 10 years ago.

“My parents taught me the value of an education, working hard and treating people fairly,” she said. “My mom is my biggest cheerleader.”

Tracy also credits her ex-husband, who is still a good friend, as being a big influence in life. “We still do cases together and if I need advice on something in law I don’t know, he is one of the first individuals I ask,” she said.

When not handing cases, Tracy enjoys spending time with her daughter, Bailey King, 27, who lives in Fort Worth, her son, Conner King, 30, who lives in Richardson, and being Gigi (grandma) to her grandson, Caden, 9.

She also enjoys going to the gym with friends, camping and hiking, along with gardening, which she sees as a way to decompress and relax away from screens.

For those in need of Tracy’s law expertise, she and Madison can be contacted Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
