Incredible numbers were recently shared about the Dublin Public Library’s Summer Reading Program and Back to School Fair.

According to information shared by Library Director Adina Dunn, there were more than 7,000 patron visits from May 11 through the end of July.

2,000 people attended a variety of programs throughout the summers and more than 4,000 books were read. 900 grab bags of summer activities and crafts were utilized by patrons.

There were more than 5,000 books checked out and nine programs were done with community partners including an African Safari Program with Elizabeth Kahura, dog safety and working dog programs with Annie’s Therapeutic Companions, Dinosaur Valley State Park, Dublin Fire Department and Smokey Bear, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Magic at the Library, space exploration with Robert Hamilton III, Saginaw Fire Department, art camp with Sarah Warner Svadlenka, Texas Parks and Wildlife and The Creature Teacher. There were donations from over 15 community organizations in four cities.

For the community’s Back to School Fair organized by the library, there were more than 1,400 socks and underwear, more than 550 books, more than 500 hair accessories, more than 300 deodorants, shampoos and conditioners, more than 230 backpacks and oral hygiene kits and more than 200 feminine hygiene kits and soap/body washes.

As the library moves towards fall, both book clubs are continuing through their selections. Both clubs are open to all adults. The Crimes and Clues Book Club is reading ‘My Sister, the Serial Killer: A Novel:’ by Oyinkan Braithwaite. The club will meet at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 to discuss the book.

The Saturday Book Club will be reading The First Ladies by Marie Benedict and Christopher Murray and will meet at 1 p.m. Sept. 21.
