Bettie Shaw
Bettie Charlene Turner Shaw was welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, Aug. 16, as her family gathered round and encouraged her to victory.
She was born May 20, 1930 to Mattie Dink Sowell Turner and James Henry Turner in Clairette,Texas.Shegraduated valedictorian of her class from Carlton High School, where she met the love of her life, Robert B. Shaw. They were married Oct. 30, 1948 and to this union, four children were born.
Bettie spent thirty-eight years as a bank teller, serving the people of Dublin with a warm welcoming smile. In her earlier years, she worked at the Dublin Hospital and Dublin Livestock Auction. She never met a stranger and if she did, they quickly became her friend.
Bettie’s favorite pastime was cheering on her grandchildren in any endeavor they chose. Her greatest joy was to know that her children and grandchildren chose to follow Jesus.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School in every age group throughout her years. Her hospitality towards newcomers was as welcoming as Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Gerald, Allmon and Gaylord Turner, and her beloved husband.
She is survived by one brother, Joe Turner of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, brother-in-law Seth Shaw of Dublin, Texas, sons Wayne (wife Deb) and Van (wife Salena) and daughter Celinda Jurney (husband Mike) of Dublin, Texas, daughter Judy Thiebaud (husband Daniel) of Eldorado, Texas, 10 grandchildren, 22 greatgrandchildren, and one greatgreat- granddaughter due in two weeks, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.
Services were held at First Baptist Church Tuesday, Aug. 20. Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church Dublin, Brushy Top Cowboy Church, Eldorado, Double N Cowboy Church, and Erath County Cowboy Church.
