The National Day of the Cowboy is right around the corner and all Dubliners are invited to attend the festivities set for Saturday, July 27.
Lilly G is setting up a day-long schedule of fun and entertainment benefitting the Dublin Rodeo Heritage Association as they host the event in Dublin from 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, July 27.
“National Day of Cowboy needs to be recognized by towns that recognize the cowboy lifestyle,” said Lilly G’s Rick Taylor.
National Day of the Cowboy was created in 2005 to preserve the role and contributions cowboys and cowgirls made to the Western heritage and history of our country and it is celebrated every year on the fourth Saturday in July.
During the event, National award recognitions will be received by three recipients: one for the National Open Ranger Award, one for National Cowboy of the Year award andonefortheNationalPreservation Award (two of which are locals, according to Taylor).
To tie into our own local cowboy heritage, the Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum (118 W. Black jack) will be unveiling new exhibits including ‘Living Legends’ and ‘Legacy’.
“These will be featured in the museum recognizing some of those, past and present, who have and still are helping to bring back the Cowboy and Rodeo Heritage in the area,” Taylor said.
The opening prayer and National Anthem will commence at high noon in downtown Dublin with the National recognitions to follow.
“We’d also like to honor all Veterans on the library lawn at 5 p.m. with a live concert by the First Calvary Division Jazz Combo from Fort Cavazos,” Taylor said.
There will be cowboys and cowgirls riding the streets on horseback throughout the day and there will be food vendors, entertainment and more. Unless specified events are taking place at the Bank of Houston Parking Lot on the Dublin EDC stage.
The schedule of events is listed below: 9 a.m. registration for the Servant Souls Poker Run (by the Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum) 10 a.m. Ewvent officially opens 10 a.m. the Servant Souls nonprofit motorcycle organization Poker Run starts ($20 entry w/ 50/50 split on winnings. Half will go to member Gage Nail to help with bills following an accident earlier this year.)
11 a.m. Tim Turnbeaugh (live music) Noon Opening prayer, National Anthem and National Award Recognitions 12:30 Native American Dance and Drum Exhibition 1 p.m. Terry Brown with Hilda Machado (trick roper) 2 p.m. Elaine Smith Cowboy Poetry and book signing 3 p.m. Miss Devon and the Outlaw (music) 4 p.m. Native American Dance and Drum Exhibition 4:30 p.m. Teresa Burleson, Cowboy Poet 5 p.m. First Calvary Division Band Jazz Combo from Fort Cavazos (Dublin Public Library lawn) 5:30 p.m. Terry Brown with Hilda Machado 8 p.m. Street Dance – Mark Scott & Southern Comfort and Kennisyn Rain ($20 per person/$30 per couple) Rancho Viejo will also host a cabalgata trail ride for the event and KCLW 900 AM will be providing a live remote.
