A vibrant taste of Mexico has come to Dublin with the opening of Gorditas Durango restaurant, promising to delight locals with its authentic and delicious Gorditas.

“We’re proud to say that a lot of people that go to Gorditas Durango say when they eat them it’s like memories of their childhood or grandma’s house,” Owner Blanca Lopez said. “In Mexico you find Gorditas on almost every corner because they are very popular.”

The picnic table, to-go style restaurant is located at 629 East Blackjack street on the corner of Highway 6 and FM 219.

“The building was offered to me and at first I said no because we were in the process of building my own and I didn’t really need it for my salon,” Lopez said. “Then it felt like something just blinked in my brain and it’s something I’ve been thinking about so I talked to my husband and that’s how everything started.”

Gorditas Durango is a completely family run business including Blanca’s husband, Julio Lopez, daughter, Camila Lopez and mother-in-law, Maria Lopez.

The restaurant offers 10 different meats for you to choose for your gorditas and you can even sample one before buying your dish.

“The idea of the gorditas is because it’s one of the most popular dishes in Mexico and when I go and visit that’s what I want to eat,” Lopez said. “That’s the thing I crave the most and I knew something was missing here, the original closest version to the Mexican gorditas.”

The business opened in December and has been up and running since.

“It was the weekend before Christmas and we just did it not even thinking or knowing how it was going to work out so we opened on a Sunday just to try to see if it would work out,” Lopez said. “That day was awesome and my husband and I look at each other like what did we get into because we didn’t know it was going to be this good.”

Lopez is on her toes everyday now running her two businesses for the town of Dublin.

“I admire more than ever now the people that own businesses, especially more than one business,” Lopez said. “My days off from the salon are the days I use to cook to get all of the food ready and on the days that I’m not making and selling them, I’m at the salon.”

Lopez is thrilled to introduce her hometown favorite dish to Dublin, offering locals a must-try favorite from Durango, Mexico.

For summer, the business is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are closed this week.
