The Dublin Chamber of Commerce is inviting businesses to join and skilled leaders to apply for positions as it is working on changing for the benefit of local businesses.
“I knew there were a lot of changes that needed to be made,” said Chamber President Stephen McNutt, who said he has been gathering feedback from business owners and the city and gone to other cities and chamber meetings for how to improve.
McNutt said his first order of business after stepping into the president role dealing with some financial issues and finding the “root cause” the organization’s negative feedback.
The re-examination has led to a decision to add more events throughout the year while boosting offerings for members like regular facebook videos where member businesses can tell their story and share specials.
McNutt also believes restructuring will be key to future success as the Chamber is trying to build a board of directors with special skills that will aid each other and the business community.
“We had some board seats that were conflicting with our board goals,” he said.
The Chamber had five open seats at the beginning of this week. McNutt said they’ve received some applications from driven candidates but encourages those interested in joining the board to send resumes to him at chamberdirector@dublintxchamber.com.
The board is especially seeking candidates with legal/ grant writing skills.
McNutt also reported that smaller officer meetings are now being held weekly to handle smaller decisions between the monthly open board meetings, which are the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.
“I think structurally we’re heading in the right direction,” said McNutt. It is his hope that the revisions will help members “feel more appreciated and included.”
