An exceptionally wide load carrying materials for nuclear plants stalled traffic on Hwy. 377 Thursday, May 23 as it traveled from Rockdale to Eunice, New Mexico. It left Rockdale April 29 after being barged from Florida. According to information shared by Bosque County Sheriff's Office the load weighed 700k lbs, the rigging makes up for the rest of the 1 million lb total. In addition to the drivers and escort vehicles, this project is accompanied by a construction division, an engineering firm, traffic and logistics specialists, etc. Routes for transports of this magnitude are researched and planned for months prior to the actual project getting underway. The route is traveled and researched to ensure the safest possible route for all concerned. When necessary to cross a bridge, the engineer conducts tests prior to crossing and after crossing to insure the safety and integrity of the bridge. A reinforced steel support platform is constructed over each bridge that essentially minimizes the actual weight that the bridge must support. It is referred to as “floating the bridge”. The crews can only travel approximately 20-30 miles per day moving exceptionally slow.
