Fire claimes DG

Shopping carts and police tape barred entry to the Dublin Dollar General on June 9 after a fire, battled all night on June 8 by Dublin Volunteer Fire Department and local crews, resulted in a total loss of the building and inventory. Renovations were ongoing for the rest of the year, completing recently.

Vehicles, visitors flock to museum for special show

Visitors and locals, some sporting green costumes, gathered on Grafton Street by Dublin’s Frontline Heroes Museum (136 E. Blackjack) for a military vehicle show, hosted by the museum and the Arrowhead Chapter of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association. Vehicles on display included transports throughout and even the Erath County SWAT Vehicle provided by Erath County Sheriff’s Office for the event. Brisket and tacos were also being served as part of a ministry fundraiser.

Course complete

Signs now show the fairways of the Dublin disc golf course at the city park after it was completed in July, thanks in part to funds raised at the Shamrock Shootout in March as well as generous sponsors.

Creature Teacher visits Library

More than 40 kids and adults gathered on the Dublin Public Library lawn July 28 for a presentation from Mrs. B, the Creature Teacher in conjunction with the ‘Tales and Tails’ Summer Reading program. The crowd was able to meet a uromastyx, veiled chameleon, chinchilla, kinkajou, kangaroo, lemur and red tail boa constrictor.

Dubliner competes in Paralympics

Dublin local Michael Godfrey qualified for the paralympics in Tokyo in August with the assistance of coach Eli Gerardo Bustillos. A send-off event was organized in his honor

Rodeo returns for 9/11

The rodeo returned to the Dublin City Park Arena Sept. 10-11 thanks to many local sponsors and the organization of Diamond Cross Rodeo. The Saturday event began with a special 9/11 recognition of local first responders in attendance as well as those who lost their lives 20 years before in the terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001.

Festival draws crowds

Dancers from Ballet Folklorico Azteca show off their colorful dresses and fancy footwork on a stage at Celebration park during the first Dublin Hispanic Heritage Festival in September. The three-day event saw hundreds come out and featured a wealth of activities.
