Liquor rules approved

Dublin City Manager Bobby Mendez reported around five current and potential business owners had expressed interest in registering to sell liquor under the city ordinance approved by the City Council in January. Among those was Mark Ellis, whose purchase of the former EMS Building on Patrick Street was approved in the Jan. 11 City council meeting. The building is currently being renovated as The Deer Lease bar and restaurant.

ECSO received donations for security

Erath County Sheriff’s Office was presented with a drone and other equipment to help better protect lives in a meet-up on Jan. 20. The donation was facilitated through the Life in the Arena Foundation and the National Public Safety Drone Donation Program and partners, FoxFury Lighting Solutions and Loc8.

Dublin area yields to cold

Snow, ice and single-digit temperatures (with wind-chill that dipped into negative numbers) made for uncomfortable conditions for many having to deal with electricity and water problems mid-February. Across the state, more than 4.3 million households and businesses lost power dues to strains on the Texas power grid.

Public Works keeps water flowing

As the February snow and ice melted, Dublin city crews responded to a water line break around Highland Avenue and Mesquite that affected the water service to local residents including the nearby apartments. Public works employees were all on-call this past week responding to 100-200 calls for service as water freezing in pipes resulted in cracks and breaks around town.

St. Pat’s draws crowds

Twenty-eight local and North Texas teams filled Dublin City Park for the first annual Shamrock Shootout Saturday. Crowds also flocked to main street for the annual parade, filled the City Park Arena for a special rodeo, hit up a fun run and shopped at Dublin Market Days amongst many fun diversions.

Honoring those who served

A special metal marker was placed by the Dublin Veterans Memorial at the Dublin Public Library March 29. The silhouette of a pair of boots, an M-16 rifle and a helmet was installed in honor of Vietnam War Veterans Day and in observance of those locally and across America who served in the Vietnam War. The special marker was made at Dublin’s Jarhead Fabrications, with Ray C Rollins reporting that the design is a universally-recognized image honoring service in Vietnam.
