Sept. 15, 1922 The Erath County Baptist Association met with the Dublin church Tuesday evening of this week. This is the annual meeting of the association and the opening sermon was preached at the church the same evening by the Rev. W.A. Jones of Fort Worth. Churches from all over the county were represented and visitors from other cities were also present. The association enjoyed addresses by Rev. S.B. Culpepper of Stephenville, and from Dr. Conner of the Fort Worth Seminary, who preached on Wednesday night.

On Wednesday afternoon the county W.M.U. held an interesting session with Mrs. Day Cage of Stephenville presiding in the absence of the chairman, Mrs. J.T. Davis of Stephenville.

The women of the church at Dublin served dinner and supper at the church on both days to the large representation.

Sept. 19, 1947 Members of the Dublin Rotary Ann Club met at their first fall meeting of the year Tuesday at a luncheon held at 12:30 p.m. at the Baxter-Bar. Eighteen members of the club were present for the meeting. Mrs. L.O. Maund, president of the club, presided.

Minutes of the past meeting were read by the secretary, Mrs. Bruce Shoemaker. Parliamentary Laws of the Club were read and discussed by the club as a whole, and reports were given from Mrs. Shoemaker, Mrs. Franks and Mrs. Leatherwood on the financial outcomes of the luncheons which were served to the Men’s Rotary Club during the summer.

It was voted and passed to hold one meeting a month, on the third Tuesday of the month. A committee was appointed to plan the meetings, where they were to be held and the program to be presented.

Mrs. Joe Fletcher entertained the members with several selections on the accordion.

Sept. 21, 1972 There is just one short week remaining for boys in Dublin to register for the local Punt, Pass and Kick Competition.

Bill Hardin, Ford Dealer sponsoring the popular youth activity in this area, said that registrations would be taken through Friday, Sept. 29. The Dublin PP&K Competition is scheduled for Sept. 30 at the high school football field.

“Although time is growing short, any boy 8-13 years of age can still compete,” said Bill Hardin. “All he needs to do is come into our showroom, accompanied by a parent or guardian, and fill out the PP&K registration form. There’s no entry fee or charge of any kind, and that goes for all six levels of competition, up to and including the National finals.”

Sept. 18, 1997 For the second time in just under two months, the Dublin City Council has discharged City Manager Tom Winder. This termination, however, will be accompanied by a $3,195 check for wages rather than a $50,000 contract buyout.

The council originally voted on July 24 to terminate the controversial city manager and buy out his contract – a document which the city’s special legal advisor, Ben Sudderth, believes is not binding.

Council members were split on the July vote and still were when the vote to terminate Winder was taken during a special council meeting Monday night.

The council’s vote followed a 40-minute executive session with Sudderth who was hired as the city’s special advisor on Sept. 1.

The termination was effective immediately and “is in the best interest of the city,” according to the resolution which was approved on a 6-2 vote. Voting in favor were Mickey Belew, Don Stewart, Rodney Armstrong, David Mulloy, Pattie Johnson and James “Red” Seigars. Opposed were Jack Thompson and Melba Reed.

City Secretary Tracy Mankin was instructed to prepare a final paycheck in the amount of $3,195.42 for “usual and normal wages” to cover a period from Winder’s last paycheck on July 24 through Tuesday, and to forward it to his last known address.
