Aug. 4, 1922

The Bosque river bridge between Clairette and Daffau collapsed the previous Wednesday when a truck returning from the Laney well went into the stream. One side of the bridge fell in, turning the bridge on its side and dumping the vehicle into the river bed more than 30 feet down. The driver and passenger were thrown out of the truck but only received minor injuries.

DeWitt Lamb, a former Dublin resident and editor of Mexia Weekly News, was nominated for representative for state legislature District 61 (over Limestone County) and won the position after receiving the majority of votes (626) over incumbent Sam A. Thomas.

Aug. 8, 1947

It was reported that an estimated 2,500 people were present for the barbecue meal served up by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Development Club during the Colborn Bowl.

Chairman A. Deuschle, commercial representative of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company was announced as manager of eight telephone exchanges including Dublin.

D.R. Barbee was constructing a 21x26 building to house two offices between Barbee Implement Company and Poston Feed Store.

Aug. 3, 1972

The Dublin Lion Cheerleaders attended Dallas Baptist College’s ASA Cheerleading School at the end of June. On the Dublin squad were: Donna Stevens, Terri Raulston, Carmela King, Sheri Traweek and Ina Martin.

Tonya Renee Rasberry, daughter of Darrell and Chris Rasberry, was the first child born in the new Dublin Hospital nursery wing. She was born at 8:20 p.m. on July 29, 1972.

Dublin Elementary School students got an early look at back-to-school with a free computer lab taught by Ann Vaughn.

Weldon Whitehead, Dublin High School ag science teacher, received his 35-year tenure award from the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas during the group’s conference in Corpus Christi.
