June 16, 1922

Guy Neel was reportedly featured in the Dallas News for advancement he made in designing and building a radio telephone device he used in Dublin and was able to transmit messages to stations in Panama, New Orleans, Galveston, Key West and on ships in the Atlantic and the Pacific.

75 years ago

June 20, 1947

The Masonic Lodge where Loyd Hines had his business was being remodeled as the front was to be torn off and replaced with a white brick and glass. About $10,000 was being spent in improvements. The space was to be occupied by the A&P Grocery.

J. Kenneth Huff arrived in his Dublin with his family as he accepted the duties as manager of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Development Club.

Officials from the Department of Health came into Dublin putting out more than 1,000 baits with poison to combat rat problems. The efforts resulted in the extermination of a know total of 447 rats. Several had been picked up before the spots were checked so an official total was not known.

50 years ago

June 23, 1972

A community picnic was set for July 4 in the City Park with Cowboy Weaver of Channel 11 leading live country music on a stage provided by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce. Local civic groups were selling concessions and a historical marker was to be dedicated.

25 years ago

June 12, 1997

The Dublin Historical Museum was opened at its new location during a busy day that also included the 106 Dublin Dr Pepper Birthday and a reunion with more than 300 registering. Museum president Mary Yantis presented an antique key to James Smith during the museum’s opening for all of his contributions to the museum’s development.
