A citizen of the Palm-Rose District sent the Dublin Progress a photo of the “handsome new school building” erected in the community. The build reportedly cost $4,200. The district was created a little over a year before when the districts of Palmer and Rose (between Carlton and Alexander) were consolidated.

75 years ago

Feb. 7, 1947

Control of the “unruly Upper Leon River” was considered one of the most important post-war projects to the Middle West Texas region. At a hearing of the Army Engineers, 45 witnesses discusses the Leon River’s yearly damage done by floods to crops, farm lands, homes, road and bridges. Plans were revealed for seven principal dam sites to help control the floods. Locations included: Colony Creek, Mangum, Edson, Proctor, Jonesboro, Belton and Elijah.

Feb. 3, 1972

The Dublin Girls Varsity basketball team were at 8-0 for the season and at the top of District 10-A following a defeat of DeLeon. On the team were: Wendy Truesdale, Paula Hamilton, Mickie Hodges, Joyce Prukop, Jo Spurger, Sherie Traweek, Darla Chick, Ida Martin, Beth Pope, Debbie Harbin, D’Lena Evans, Donna Stevens, Nancy Grissom, and Terri Roulston. Their coach was Dale Key. Team managers were Judy Prukop and Kathy Jones.

Feb. 6, 1997

As part of a community program series hosted by the Dublin Historical Society, Ben Pate (at that point, a television executive in Dallas) delivered a pictorial tour of the turn-of-the-century John Harris home to a crowd of 85 interested parties. (Pate would later move back to Dublin and is now the President of the Dublin Historical Society.)
