Nov. 18, 1921

Drilling started at the Texas-Iowa Oil Syndicate’s Laney Well No. 2 (near Duffau) started on Nov. 10. Drilling was being led by Mr. Tubbs of Stephenville, a West Virginia man who had success drilling in fields in West Virginia, Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas.

Dublin celebrated the third anniversary of the signing of the armistice with a banquet, given by leaders of the city and hosted in the basement of the First Baptist Church. A total of 360 were served with 160 of them being service men and their partners. Principal speaker for the event was Senator J.H. Baugh of Ballinger and toastmaster was J.W Cockrell, pastor of the Christian Church of Dublin.

Nov. 15, 1946

Alvin Johnson of Dublin was named one of the 21 Hardin-Simmons University students elected to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.

The Dublin board led a big Armistice Day parade at DeLeon. The American Legion hosted a BBQ afterwards.

J.C. Robbins presented his piano classes in recital at the auditorium in the First United Methodist Church. Among the performers were: Nancy Nelson, Betty Guest, Mary Lyn Whitfield, Frida Cornelius, Joan Henderson, Janie Hicks, Carroll Vincent, Joe Harris, Joann Bradley, Kathleen Sanders, Doralie Leatherwood, Betty Ruth Price, Mary Elizabeth Jones and Martha Keller.

50 years ago

Nov. 18, 1971

December 10-12 was set for the 1971 duck hunt, an event sponsored annually by the Erath County Sportsman’s Club and drawing visitors from all over Texas and out of state to hunt on Dublin’s 40 conservation lakes, small ponds and Lake Proctor.

Jodie Boron, a western artist from Abilene, was present at Thompson Gallery of Original Art in Stephenville exhibiting his work.

25 years ago

November 14, 1996 The annual community Thanksgiving was set for Nov. 24 at First United Methodist Church with message by Patrick Street Church of Christ’s Mid McKnight and a community choir led by Howard Oakes of First Baptist Church.

Lillie Gibson, President of the Erath County Historical Commission, presented a marker during a dedication at Upper Greens Creek Cemetery on Nov. 16. The marker commemorates the settling of the GC area in 1873.
