August 12, 1921

Citizens who were interested in re-organizing charity work were requested to meet at the First Christian Church in Dublin on August 16. The story read “The need has not been great during the past three or four years, but it is somewhat pressing now and will likely be very much more so within the next few months.” The Mayor J.S. Daley requested both men and women to take part in the meeting.

75 years ago

August 9, 1946

The Majestic Theatre was showing several films. Friday was the last day to see “Cluny Brown” starring Jennifer Jones and Charles Boyer. Saturday’s matinee and night show was Gene Autry’s “Under Fiesta Stars”. Sunday and Monday was “Of Human Bondage” starring Eleanor Parker and Paul Heindred. Tuesday and Wednesday was a double feature of “Talk about a Lady” and “Days of Buffalo Bill”. Thursday and Friday was Dana Anderson and Richard Conte in “A Walk in the Sun”.

50 years ago

August 12, 1971

The Dublin Public School was set to open on August 19 and students enrolled were required to have all the immunizations listed. Immunizations included: polio, diphtheria, tetanus, measles, rubella and smallpox. It was requested that students have their immunizations before the start of school.

August 8, 1996

The Sunset Café, located at 906 N. Patrick St. advertised their Student Special of an Old Fashion Burger and Fries for $3.95 in the Back to School section. They also advertised their nightly specials for the week.
