100 years

July 15, 1921

Higginbotham Brothers & Co let shoppers know that they would not be participating in Dollar Day due to a remodel. The ad read “We must clear out all our space as much as possible, in order to do this we will make especially low prices on season able summer goods. Come see the goods. It’s your opportunity.” The ad also said that when the renovation was complete with the new fixtures, that they would have “the most up to date and elegant stores in Central Texas.”

75 years

July 12, 1946

Mr. and Mrs. Stephens of Dublin celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with nine of their 10 children in attendance. The couple married in June 1896 and lived in Comanche County when they were married.

July 15, 1971

A front page story let people know that persons 18, 19 and 20 years old were eligible to vote in federal elections due to the 26th amendment to the Constitution, which lowered the voting age to 18. This amendment went into effect immediately and overrode Article VI of the Texas Constitution which required voters to be 21 years or older to vote.

The gazebo on the corner lot was nearly finished as the community prepared for Under the Stars. Local businesses developed special activities for the event to promote tourism and community participation. The brass ensemble, organized by Dublin Band Director Mark Gerber, played in the new gazebo.
