Several films were playing at the Majestic Theatre. Friday was “The Spiral Staircase” starring Dorothy McGuire and George Brent. Saturday’s matinee and night show was “Galloping Thunder”. Sunday and Monday was “Devotion”. Tuesday and Wednesday was a double feature of “The Crime Doctor’s Warning” and “Phantom of the Plains”. Thursday and Friday’s Film was “Dragonwyck”.

The Shamrock Restaurant posted their special for the week. Monday was spaghetti with meatballs or meat sauce, thick garlic toast, parmesan cheese and Italian peppers. Tuesday was prime rib, baked potato and green salad. Wednesday was Mexican food and Thursday was catfish fry. The Shamrock Restaurant was open from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and was located at 212 W Blackjack.

An estimated 21,000 lbs of meat were condemned by the health department after a fire halted all slaughter and processing at the Country Mornin’ Foods. The fire started in a small room at the southeast corner of the facility and had spread to two large cooler units that housed 42 hanging beef carcasses, 1,000 lbs of smoked pork and summer sausage before it was discovered.
