The accidental discharge of a fire arm killed the one year old child of a Dublin couple. The one year old was playing on the floor while the couple’s older child was playing with the gun, which was thought to be unloaded. The baby was rushed to the hospital around 9:30 on Saturday and unfortunately the child passed away the next day around 1:30.

A reward was offered for any information leading to the arrest of cemetery raiders who vandalized two one stone monuments at the New Dublin Cemetery. The damage was discovered by visitors to the cemetery on Sunday morning. This was not the first time cemetery headstones were vandalized, the first occurrence being on Jan. 21 1970, in which 85 grave markers were damaged. The worst was in the Davies lot where a seven foot tombstone (J. Davies) was broken in three places and another that was upended. Cemetery directors offered at $250 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the raiders.

The Dublin Police Department introduced their newest addition, Donna, a two year old Belgian Malinois shepherd. The new K9 helped her handler Officer Jimmy Jackson search for drugs, being trained to detect marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, heroin and opium. Two photos on the front page of the Dublin Citizen featured Donna and Officer Jackson both at work and posing for a photo.
