The Dublin Woman’s Thursday Club met in the Dublin Public Library Feb. 8. Sixteen members were present with three absent.
President Fran Jurney called the meeting to order, and the group went immediately into the Club Collect. Secretary Judith Lemons called roll and read the minutes from the January meeting which were approved as read.
Erynn Sprouse introduced the program which was presented by Barbara Poplin. The club had the opportunity to gain experience not only of the life of Rufus Higginbotham but also of his family and their contributions to Dublin and the many businesses the Higginbotham family started and ran in surrounding communities. Most members had memories of later members of the Higginbotham family, the homes they built in Dublin and shopping in the stores throughout the area. In looking back at past presidents of the Thursday Club, five Higginbotham ladies led our organization and two were founding members.
Paper goods for CWJC were collected and funds for Bluebonnet Award books and Goodfellows were also received. The club has a long history of providing Bluebonnet books for the Dublin Public Library with any extra money also benefiting the library.
The club will host the Miss Dublin Tea for the contestants of the Miss Dublin and the Junior Miss Dublin pageants on March 3 at the Dublin Methodist Church. A signup sheet for workers and refreshments was passed around.
Engineer Edilsia Jimenez passed out the new bookkeeping sheets for members to tally volunteer hours, contributions,. This will make turning in facts to the district much more efficient.
The next meeting will be the 126th Anniversary Meeting for the Thursday Club. Members will enjoy a program at the Middle Trinity Groundwater in Stephenville and go out to lunch together.
