Students prep for seasons

Members and instructors of the Sound of Dublin band program gathered this week at Dublin Secondary School in preparation for the 2021-2022 school year as they began to practice their marching and playing together.

The band will be joined at the school Monday by athletes and coaches as practice gets underway for fall sports (football, cross country and volleyball).

All athletes will be required to get a physical this year to participate. Dublin Family Medicine (254-445-4900) will give free physicals by appointment only.

Students should bring the physical examination form and their medical history form along with other UIL required forms when they report on Monday.

Football

Coach/Athletic Director Greg Hardcastle reported players should arrive monday, Aug. 2 by 5:45 am to be fitted for helmets and workout gear as we want to be on the field at 6:30.

“We will practice in the mornings on August 2 & 3 and in the afternoons beginning Aug. 4,” said Hardcastle.

Monday, Aug. 2 - 6:30 -10 a.m. Practice (shorts/ shirt/helmet) & Weights

Tuesday, Aug. 3 - 6:30 - 10 a.m. Practice (shorts/ shirt/helmet) & Weights

Wednesday, Aug. 4 - 6:30 - 7 a.m. - Weights 3:30 - 6 p.m. Practice (shell)

Thursday, Aug. 5 - 6:30 - 7 a.m. - Weights 3:30 - 6:00 PM Practice (shell)

Friday, Aug. 6 - 6:30 - 7 a.m. - Weights 3:30 - 6:00 PM Practice (shell)

Saturday, Aug 7 - 8:00 - 10:30 a.m. First day in full pads

Monday, Aug. 9 - 6:30 - 7 a.m. - Weights 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. Practice

Tuesday, Aug. 10 6:30 - 7 a.m. - Weights 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. Practice

SCRIMMAGE vs Venus

Cross Country

Coach Wes Grisham reported that Cross Country workouts will begin Monday at 6:30 a.m. at the Dublin Secondary Campus. Athletes should bring running shoes, a water bottle/jug and a hand towel (optional).

Volleyball

The Dublin Lady Lions volleyball team are gathering this week for a team volleyball camp Wednesday through Friday before starting into two-a-days on Monday.

This will begin with a ‘Midnight Mile’ gut check at the Bob and Norma Cervetto Field. This will be followed by practice sessions from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.

Practice will continue from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 4 - Aug. 6. Scrimmages will be held Aug. 7 at Dublin Secondary with games begnning at 8 a.m.
