Shooters among indicted

Two suspects from shootings are headed to trial after being named among the indictments decided by the Erath County Grand Jury on June 15.

Jose Manuel DeLeon, 60, was indicted for murder, a first-degree felony.

Deleon was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred just after 8 p.m. Sunday, March 27 in the 400 block of West Valley in Dublin. The victim in the incident was Dora Santamaria Hernandez, who was Deleon’s exgirlfriend, according to Dublin PD.

Deleon was named a person of interest in the incident because he was reportedly witnessed driving away from the scene in a black Ford F-150 pickup that was found abandoned in Hamilton County on Monday, March 28. Authorities arrested Deleon at the Eagle Pass border crossing in Maverick County at approximately 11 a.m. on March 30.

Garrett Dale Reeves, 23, was indicted for aggravated assault (with a deadly weapon, against a family member), a first-degree felony.

Garrett Reeves was arrested in connection with the April 9 shooting of Erath County Auditor and Hamilton County Chief Financial Officer Kent Dale Reeves, 62 (the defendant’s father).

According to an arrest affidavit prepared by Texas Ranger B.J. Hill, Kent Reeves was shot approximately 15 times inside his living room and had been transported to a Fort Worth hospital, where he slowly recovered over the next few months before getting to return home.

Hill reportedly spoke to Kent’s wife, Lora Reeves, who advised that she had been asleep in an upstairs bedroom when she was awoke by a loud bang. She reportedly went downstairs to find Kent Reeves lying on the ground in pain and stating that the son had shot him.

Hill reported in the affidavit that Garrett Reeves had fled the scene after the altercation. A search was issued by the Texas Rangers, and Garrett Reeves was found the next morning when he was arrested.
