Rodeo royalty honored in glitzy gala

Cowboy hats and haute couture filled the Tarleton Student Center ballrooms Saturday, Feb. 22 as Lilly G Arena Productions hosted its 7th annual Simply Dangerous fashion show and awards presentation.

The annual event also acts as a fundraiser for Cook’s Children’s Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network as ticket costs and table tips went to helping families dealing with major health issues in their children.

More than $1,650 was raised at the event and organizer Rick Taylor reported that donations routinely come in for several weeks after the event. The annual event has raised more than $125,000 for the charity over the years.

“It was an overall success with a record crowd,” said Taylor.

Several well-known Dubliners received awards at the event.

Citizen of the Year was presented to Mary Howard for her 29 years of hard work and dedication to keeping the Cowboy Capital MS Trailride going annually, to help find a cure for MS.

Penny Corona was presented the ‘I Can’ award, which is presented in recognition of those who have been in education at some point in their lives by teaching or in administration.

Top Hand Awards were given to locals Latonia Ables and Shelby Gunter.

Tre’ Slayter with Hookin S Rodeo Co of Deville was presented Contractor of the Year.

Entertainer of the Year was presented to Cowboy Poet Teresa Burleson of Weatherford.

Sponsor of the Year was presented to United Country Rancher’s Choice Realty.

The popular Bill Mack Communications Award went to the Mayor of Country Music, Joe Bielinski of 92.1 Hank FM Country Cafe Show.

Mike Pruitt with the Rylan Strong Network and Maddi Brooks presented the Mason Brooks Humanitarian Award to the Monk Strong Memorial Foundation.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Codye Daily for over a decade of effort.

The event also culminated in the crowning of Ms. Lilly G Texas 2025 Kellen Rushfeldt of Corpus Christi and Miss Lilly G Texas 2025 Shelby Gunter.

He also offered a special thanks for Willie and Gayla for catering, Jaci Barham, Stubby Maugh, Sandie Jaggars, Mark Scott, Maddi Brooks, Julie Hale and Shelby Gunter for presenting awards, and Miss Devon Dawson and Teresa Burleson for the halftime event.
