Rodeo is riding into the Dublin City Park Arena on Sept. 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. when Diamond Cross Rodeo returns for its second year.

“Last year was a big success for a first year rodeo,” said Diamond Cross’ Jeff Slaton. “We put right at $3,000 back in community in scholarships to the high school and donations to community organizations.”

Slaton reported they’re expanding the benefits to the Dublin community beyond the $2,500 FFA Calf Scramble which provided scholarships to graduating seniors this spring. Proceeds from this year’s event will also help fund two additional scholarships—one for a college bound student and another for a student heading to a trade school that benefits the rural lifestyle.

“It can be anything from a welder to a diesel mechanic,” Slaton said of the viable career paths. “It could even be an EMT.”

The event, sanctioned by United Pro Rodeo Association and Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association, is being sponsored by McCoy’s Building Supply and Triple Crown Ford/ Lincoln.

Slatonexpectsagoodshowing since the rodeo coincides with the end of the UPRA season and will be a good last chance event for riders and ropers looking to up their standing.

The rodeo promises exciting action such as bareback saddle bronc, bull riding, team roping and calf roping events as well as mutton bustin’ and the FFA calf scramble.

Tickets are $12 at the gate with a Buy one get one free special on Sept. 9 (Kids 10 and under enter for free.)

No outside food or drink will be allowed but concessions will be sold on-site with vendors able to take credit card payments.

Each evening will begin with mutton bustin’ sign-up at 6 p.m. and the kids hitting the dirt at 7 p.m. (Entry into the mutton bustin’ competition is $20.)

Ty Rhodes, an experienced announcer from Surprise, Arizona, who has worked in nine states will be on the microphone while barrel man Chase Nolen is coming back to the arena.

Time will also once again be set aside to honor local first responders during a 9-11 tribute in the Saturday night event. The recognition is expected to include as many Dublin first responders as possible, the Erath County Sheriff’s Posse and the American Legion Color Guard.

“It will be a fitting tribute in recognition of those that keep us safe,” Slaton said.

Slaton also state his appreciation to the Dublin community for their support of the event.

“The community has really stepped up,” he said. “We like being here and being a part of this community.”
