RD volunteers aid with fence

More than 25 volunteers were working together to help a Dublin resident replace a dilapidated fence in the 400 block of South Norton after the homeowner sought a grant from Revitalize Dublin, a local nonprofit.

In announcing the project, Revitalize Dublin founding member Lori Beggs said it was to help a widow replace “her privacy fence to help restore both security and peace of mind at her home.”

A few volunteers showed up Friday to remove the old fence and repurpose/dispose of the old wood at a farm outside of town. Early the next morning, volunteers gathered with some laying out boards, some helping clear vegetation in the way and many with drill in hand working from both ends to install the new fence. The many hands ensured they were able to finish the job quickly and with quality care.

“Thank you so much to everyone who showed up to help replace my mother’s fence this weekend,” said Shauna Luttrell-Mahon in social media. “After my dad passed it has been a lot of work helping my mom keep up the property and making sure that the home my dad put his life and hard work into is something the family gets to continue to enjoy and make memories with one another.”

She noted that many will offer help but not often follow through. “We are truly grateful for the help keeping my father’s dream alive,” she added. “We love what you’re doing Revitalize, and we are proud to be members of a community who care so much about their people.”
