Primaries decide JP race

Erath County voters chose state candidates for the November elections and picked the Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2 during the May 24 Primary Run-Offs.

Voters in the Republican Primary Run-offs picked David Martin for the JP position with 413 votes (64.43%) to Chris Evans’ 228 (35.57%). There were 21 Precinct 2 voters who left the decision blank.

Erath County voters also made the following decisions for candidates in state races:

■ Ken Paxton for Attorney General (1,389 votes, 68.32%) over George P. Bush (644 votes, 31.68%)

■ Dawn Buckingham for Commissioner of the General Land Office (1,415 votes, 75.67%) over Tim Westley (455 votes, 24.33%)

■ Wayne Christian for Railroad Commissioner (1,190 votes, 61.85%) over Sarah Stogner (734 votes, 38.15%)

In the Democratic primaries, Erath voters made the following decisions:

■ Mike Collier for Lieutenant Governor (91 votes, 65%) over Michelle Beckley (49 votes, 35%)

■ Rochelle Mercedes Garza (71 votes, 50.71%) for Attorney General over Joe Jaworski (69 votes, 49.29%)

■ Janet T. Dudding for Comproller of Public Accounts (100 votes, 71.94%) over Angel Luis Vega (39 votes, 28.06%)

■ Jay Kleberg for Commissioner of General Land Office (80 votes, 57.55%) over Sandragrace Martinez (59 votes, 42.45%)

Erath voters followed state trends in picking candidates for both the Republican and Democratic elections.
