Dublin FFA advisor Darren Price received statewide recognition at the Texas FFA convention in Houston last week as he was named the Area 4 Golden Owl (or Teacher of the Year).

Price, who has taught ag for nearly 35 years, was selected above hundreds of educators in the area for the distinction.

“I’m truly blessed to have received this award and to have had outstanding role models throughout my career,” said Price of the honor. “I have also been blessed to have the support of my family, teaching partners, administrators, school boards, students and the communities that I have taught in.”

He added: “One of the things I’m most proud of in my teaching career is taking the chance to step outside my comfort zone to make sure my students have the opportunity to develop their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.”

“Darren Price has been with Dublin ISD for many years and during this time he has assisted students in receiving FFA scholarships, Lone Star degrees, welding certifications, and has helped with numerous stock shows,” said DISD superintendent Melissa Summers. “He has impacted so many students in such a positive way and I could not think of anyone more deserving of the Golden Owl award he received at the FFA State Convention.”

The Dublin FFA facebook page in reporting the news said: “If you ask the students about what they love most about Mr. Price it includes his willingness to help, go above and beyond, belief in each student’s ability to be successful, his funny jokes, and his supportive and positive attitude…. The Dublin FFA is beyond blessedandluckytohavesuch an outstanding agricultural science teacher and FFA advisor at our school. If you see Mr. Price out and about be sure to shake the hand and recognize this Golden Owl!”

Price is starting his 27th year of teaching in Dublin ISD.
