The Dublin Police Department urged caution to its citizens over the weekend after an investigation into a series of online scams taking place on platforms like Facebook Marketplace.
“While we cannot release full details at this time due to the ongoing nature of the case, we can confirm that the individuals responsible are not from our local area. Unfortunately, some of our local businesses have already fallen victim,” Police Chief Cameron Ray said. “This is a large-scale operation affecting small rural communities across Texas — from the Permian Basin in the west, to the Panhandle in the north, down into the Hill Country, and over to the Piney Woods in the east.”
DPD is working in coordination with state and federal agencies.
“Please remember: If something sounds too good to be true, or is priced suspiciously low, it probably is,”Ray said. “If you ever have doubts about a transaction on Facebook Marketplace or any online platform, get a second opinion before you send any money or personal information — and if that second opinion needs to be us, we’re just a call away. Stay cautious. Stay safe.”
