Newspaper receives 9 awards

The Dublin Citizen received nine awards in this year’s annual Better Newspaper Contest through the North and East Texas Association.

“Once again, the team at the Dublin Citizen has received award after award from their peers in the newspaper industry for the outstanding paper they deliver to the citizens of Erath County every single week,” said Brett Wesner, owner of the Citizen. “I know how important a good community newspaper is in helping bind a community together, and I’m so proud of Paul, Wyndi, Cindy and Deborah and Jerry for their commitment to their work.

Congratulations team!”

Managing Editor Paul Gaudette received first place in sports coverage.

Judges complimented The Citizen as having a good variety of sports with nice and big photos on the sports pages.

Gaudette also received second place in Sports Photographer of the Year against 26 newspapers of varying sizes, including semiweeklies and weeklies.

“Decent shots. Full coverage of six sports is impressive,” the judges commented on Gaudette’s entries.

Gaudette and Content Editor Wyndi Veigel-Gaudette, both placed in the column writing category. Paul received 2nd place and Wyndi received 4th.

Judges were complimentary of the use of humor in the columns.

Both staff members also received 2nd place in feature photography for their entries on the stick horse rodeo and Pinewood Derby.

On rodeo races, “Made me laugh immediately, what a great catch!”

Wyndi and Paul also received a 3rd place award in news photography. Entries included fire photos of the cabinet shop fire and wheelchair ramp building coverage.

Fourth place awards were also received in page design, sports photo and advertising.

Due to point totals gathered in the contest, The Citizen received 2nd place in Sweepstakes.
