Hamilton Herald News

The Hamilton School Board addressed dress code issues at their regular meeting. Two mothers spoke at the meeting regarding the discussion of the dress code, with differing opinions. Alathia Matthews pointed out that high school students are giving the chance to become cosmetologists but are limited to what they can do to hair because of the schools policy of having a natural hair color. “We tell our kids, ‘Be yourself and don’t follow the crowd’…then limit ways for them to express their individuality.” Renee French had a differing opinion regarding the dress code saying “A conservative dress code is critical” and that having a strict dress code at school helps reinforce the dress code at home. The board voted to stay with the conservative view with only one vote against, the main discussion being about allowing non natural hair colors.
