The next Hico City Council election is set for May 1 with the candidate filing being Feb. 12.Three seats will be up for election, those of Jason Finch, Suzanne Schouten and Charles Erick. Elections held in 2020 had been postponed due to COVID or because the incumbents ran unopposed. School Board has two seats to fill held by Bret Polk and Keith Jackson.

Hamilton County has been praised by Gov. Abbott for being 2nd in the nation for vaccination rates. The tweet praising the county said “Rural Texas counties lead the country in vaccination rates. They represent eight of the top 11 counties in America including the #1 and #2 ranked counties. Thanks to the many frontline healthcare workers who are achieving this success.” Hamilton County is listed second behind Baylor County for vaccinations.

The 5.5 million dollar lotto ticket was purchased in Comanche at the N. Austin location on January 20. The winning lotto numbers were 6, 14, 30, 45, 49, 50 and the person who purchased the ticket did a quick pick and checked the cash value option. This was the only ticket to have all 6 numbers correct with 16 people matching 5 out of the 6. These people will receive $2,073.

A photo featured the DeLeon Volunteer Fire Department putting out a truck fire on Saturday. A truck overheated and caught fire and no injuries were reported. It was reported that traffic was at a standstill for nearly half an hour.
