The Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District Board of Directors approved a draw-down study and ordered board elections in Erath and Comanche during their regular meeting on Thursday, Aug. 4.

The study is to be performed by hydrologist James Beach, who has a long history with the district, and will comprise of different studies of human and environmental effect of water in different situations around MTGCD’s member counties. The study will look at multiple wells in situations like down-dip and outcrop areas.

The board also unanimously approved the November 2022 order of elections for directors in Erath and Comanche counties with Fred Parker and Jerry Hinshaw up for re-election in Erath and Frank Volleman up for re-election in Comanche.

The district also voted to change its drought contingency plan with reviews now happening every Monday morning at 8 a.m. Drought is a principal concern as the quarterly drought report showed each county in ‘severe’ or ‘exceptional’ and between 14 and 17 inches in average rainfall by this point in the year.

The board also approved General Manager Patrick Wagner to represent MTGCD on Groundwater Management Area 8 with Charles Ferguson as his backup should he be unable to attend a meeting of the management group.

The district also rescheduled its September meeting from Sept. 1 to Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.
