A “Back to the 70s” birthday party is planned for Moo-La’s 50th in downtown Stephenville Friday, Sept. 23.
The event is hosted by the City of Stephenville and will include a ceremony and cow parade by the beautiful OSVE Dairy Holsteins at 5 p.m., followed by free hot dogs and pulled pork sandwiches from Western Dairy Transport, free milk from DairyMAX, milk and cookie pairings by Volleman’s Dairy, free t-shirts from TSU’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and free limited edition 1891 Colas featuring Moo-La on the label courtesy of the fourth generation Crouch Dairy and Dublin Bottling Works - all while supplies last!
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., enjoy the street dance with live music from the 70s by The Downtown Fever Band as well as the VW Photo Bus, food trucks, and more. Seventies attire is encouraged.
Moo-La has stood in tribute to the local dairy industry at the center of the Erath County seat for 50 years. The late Joyce and Tom Whitis erected the beloved fiberglass bovine on Sept. 23, 1972, in honor of the industry which has served as the bread and the butter for many area families. Local businesses and dairymen donated the funds to ship her here and construct her sign.
Moo-La enjoyed a complete makeover donated by Hunter Body Works earlier this year. Upon completion in March, she was herded back downtown with a full police and fire escort.
